Anyone tried the Demon Tweeks sort?
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/catalogue ... EG1470-STD

Will they fit an Elan?
Works out about ?190 inc vat for the set. No bolts though.

Chris Neil sells the donuts for L85 a pair. Could the VAT and postage
actually be as much as L45?

Guy's please ignore my last mail!!!
I was looking at Demon Tweeks "standard" do nut. The heavy duty type as used in our elans are ?151 each. For a set, that's ?714 inc VAT!!!
They have to be having a laugh. That's nearly Two Mick Miller CV setups.
Doh.

I Have the TT drive shafts .Solid construction ,grease nipples fitted ,easyto instsll ,can easily revert bact to original set up .Good take off no windup as with the rotaflex .
Down side, when the car is jacked up the knuckles bind and you cannot turn the wheels ,limiting straps could be fitted

But I have found a source for the rotoflex couplings.....?110 per pair
including postage and VAT in the UK
I reckon that it is a saving of about ?20 over what PM and CN charge and
as you may well need 4 of them then it'd be ?40 cheaper..mind you having
said that what was the cost of the CV conversion?????.....mick miller
was knocking them out at ?385 +vat..(did that include the +2 by the
way??)...so its back to the start of that argument again...CV conversion
or original donuts..8 donuts..?440..1 CV conversion kit ?450...it all
depends on how your donuts last...as it has been mentioned before they
just aren't made the same as they used to be...if they only last a
couple of years do you bite the bullet and get the CV.do you want
originality???....
As a famous man once said...." You never know before 'till after a bit
since "
Who has what CV conversion????.....there is mick millers version, tony
thompsons version, the ?lan factory from OZ (although this seems to be
very expensive especially when you stick the postage on!!!) and isn't
there also a spyder version...
Who has which version and what are the pro's and cons....what are the
verdicts?????
Cheers
Gareth

Thanks - I have only just picked up your email. A conversion which includes
the drive shafts must be better. I guess you got yours in the States? Who
from and how much?

Ta,

David

Subject: RE: [LotusElan.net] CV Joints

David,

The CV-conversion kit I purchased from RDEnt requires replacement of the
inner stub axles. There is no inner adapter plate. The inner CV joint bolts
directly to the new inner stub axles (with the six bolts that hold the CV
joint together). The outer end still uses an aluminum adapter plate (with
steel inserts).

The new inner stub axles are very nice pieces; nice machining and very
stout. But, I am sure that the kit's cost is greater because the conversion
kit must include these expensive new stub axles, not just CV-joints, axles,
and adapters. If you are going to replace the standard stub axles anyway
(non-RDEnt systems), as David suggests is prudent, then the extra cost of
the RDEnt kit fades away.

One advantage of the RDEnt kit is that the intermediate axle shaft can be
slightly longer without an inner adapter plate. The longer axle would have
less anglular deflection at each CV joint for any given suspension
movement. I think this angular difference would be slight and probably not
a real benefit.

David,

The name of the company where I bought my CV kit is RDEnt. Ray Psulkowski
is the proprietor of RD Enterprises. They are one of the long-time US Lotus
parts suppliers (a good bunch of people). RDEnt has been in Pennsylvania
since 1976.

The CV conversion that RDEnt sells costs US$1250. Seems very high at first.
If you factor in the cost of new inner axles (which are supplied with the
RDEnt kit, but would/should otherwise be purchased separately) the RDEnt
kit cost become more reasonable.

One negative aspect of the inner axles supplied with the RDEnt kit: the
flanges (on the inner axles) are unique to a CV joint (six bolt pattern),
they cannot be used with original Lotus equipment (donuts) or adapters that
require a Lotus 3-bolt pattern. The RDEnt supplied inner axles are very
high quality parts: stout and very well machined.

You can view the RDEnt CV kit near the bottom of a long parts web page:
http://www.rdent.com/pages/parts.html
or navigate through their main page:
http://www.rdent.com/index.html

I seriously considered the Elan Factory's CV kit. The kit itself looks
great. Their price was quite low (I have dated price info, so I won't
specify it here). The Elan Factory kit does not include new inner axles,
only adapter plates for your existing ones.

The Elan Factory sent me a Word.doc brochure of their kit (good photos). I
would be glad to forward that brochure file to you. The issue that stopped
me from purchasing their CV kit was the shipping cost. The Elan Factory is
in Melbourne, Australia. Shipping such heavy parts to the US, even on a
slow boat, would have raised the initially appealing price to a level that
made me start looking at other kits. But their kit was a serious contender
in my mind. Shipping cost is also a big issue with the UK suppliers; gasket
sets are one thing, axles are another.
