Dash switches for a basket case

PostPost by: jwk » Fri Dec 26, 2003 4:01 am

Now I know that there is nothing definitive with the assembly of an
Elan, but maybe there might at least be a bit of consensus on this
question. I am trying to put a left hand drive 1967 S3 SE 456481 back
together that came into my care in many boxes. What is the "correct "
placement of the instruments and switches into the dash. All the
pictures I have found are from too far back to be sure what switch is
what. So left to right, top to bottom what are in the holes in your
dash.
Thanks and Happy Holidays

oil/water gauge, handbrake warning light, tach, speedo, fuel gauge
bonnet latch, dash light, bonnet latch.
radio blanking plate, cigar lighter
heater flow contol cable, heater fan switch, panel lamp dimmer, map
light switch, choke cable.
ashtray
vacuum light actuator, light switch, heater blower switch, ignition
switch.

not sure if you have the electric window switches on the doors but I
think they are on the dash panel by the timme your Elan was built.
they are probably located on either side of the ashtray.

Jim,

You really need a factory shop manual. There are drawings in the front which show all the positions for the gauges and switches, but more importantly, tell how to properly install the diff and the right way around for the rubber donuts and just all sorts of other stuff you've got to be just guessingat now. And of couse you'll need a wiring diagram and the proper way to string the side windows and on and on. They show up on ebay every so often and there is probably someone close to you who might even loan you one.

Where are you located?

Roger

PS: The factory parts books are excellant too and a source for all sorts ofexploded views on how things go together.

Layout you gave is same as mine. Power windows are DOWN BELOW AND
OUTBOARD OF THE ASHTRAY. George
