Bonnet Spring Hook

PostPost by: velo » Thu Jan 16, 2003 3:29 pm

Could someone out there do me a favour by sending me a picture or
sketch (with some dimensions) for the spring hook that is attached to
the front edge of the bonnet (hood). Also some indication as to how
it is attached. I have a new bonnet to fit, but no hook.
TIA

The spring goes around the steering rack and clips back onto itself. There is a metal piece that is rivited to the front edge of the bonnet that the top end of the spring clips to. I typically rotate a spring type 25mm diameter keyring onto that bonnet bracket and then clip the spring to that. Doingthis reduces the spring force pulling down on the front edge of the bonnetand keeps the bonnet from distorting. I also threaded on a piece of electrical insulating woven tubing onto the bottom of the spring to keep it from scraping the paint on the steering rack. Electric shrink tubing would also be a good choice there.

Yes Roger, thanks.

It's the shape and size of the metal piece that I'm interetsed in

Mike,

Where are you located? If you're near enough, I'd invite you to just come look and measure as much as you wish.

I'll try to get some digital photos of the piece over the weekend, althoughI have lots of work to do on house projects. Then if I can find time, I'd love to be at the horseshoe on Saturday for the big Buckeye National championship celebration, but its also supposed to be ZERO deg F tonight. Arghhh.

Would you like a sample. I have my old one in the garage and will sit thereuntil kingdom come. All you need to pay is the P&P (I'm UK based).

Regards,

Mark.
