What is this?

PostPost by: mdf » Mon Sep 28, 2009 10:14 pm

I found this in my pile of Elan parts. Can anyone identify this.

It might not even be an Elan part.

Any guesses appreciated.

Thanks,

My guess would be some sort of fabricated bracket to help support the heater unit BUT the fan mechanism would hot so perhaps check that is standard or maybe modified, looks like the fan would be about where the circular plate is.

Good luck

I thought it was a heater bracket too- but it wouldn't fit correctly.

Vacuum canister - Thanks.

It doesn't look like any brackets from my S4. The bottom mount for the vacumn tank is welded to the tank & the upper bracket just has one bolt hole at either end.

I'm puzzled by this "vacuum tank"; where is it supposed to be in an Elan? I only know of the the front chassis crossmember being used as a vacuum reservoir.

Hello,

it is the bracket for the vacuum pod for the fail-safe version. It was standard on federal version of S4 and Sprint. All other versions were with two pods; on federal version there is only one in the center of the nose and the two headlamps are connected by a rode. It work in the opposite way: when the engine is working the headlamp remain closed and when the car is parking the headlamps are open; if the vacuum sytem doesn't wark properly the spring connected to the pod open the headlamp automatically. Also the vacuum valve/switch on the dash is different, with two microswitches for the head lights.

This bracket is exactely the same that I heve in my car federal version.
