Exhaust system

PostPost by: graham » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:18 am

Does anyone have a photo of the exhaust on a 2s130/5. As my car was stripped in 1998 by others I have no idea where the pipe runs ie centre of chassis? .
Are there any brackets buy the gearbox to support the manifold pipes. And wher are the other brackets located on the main pipe run or onlt at rear silencer. :?

Graham,

I have an S130/4, so the set up may be different. On my car the pipe runs along the centre of the chassis. Only support brackets are at front and rear of silencer, supported by rubber bobbins.

I have an early +2 (4 speed - transverse rear box) and there is a support in the gearbox area on the just after the 'Y' piece - I'll see if I can get a photo later.

Further to the above please see attached page from Lotus WSM. You will see it shows a central support for early type ( like mine) and no central support for later types.
I hope this helps - this seemed an easier option than going out side and jacking the car up for a photo!

Graham:

My parts book pic is a bit different than Baggy's above, mainly 'cus mine shows the ridiculous Federal stock set-up we got in NA. I am assuming with a 130/5 you do not have the cast manifold from the Federal model? Reason I mention this is because with the cast manifold there are four bolts in tension at the top end of the manifold, which pretty much makes the transmission exhaust bracket a must; the PO had removed my transmission mount which led to failure of the system. I replaced with the formed pipe headers from Dave Bean, which appear to be strong enough to negate the need for a transmission bracket. The rubber strap mounts on the muffler can take up any heat expansion of the pipe, and all seems to be fine with about 1000 miles on the system. Watch for clearance to the transmission mount to prevent rattles though. We used clamp junctions at the base of the header and to the muffler stub like shown by Baggy; all else welded as required.

Federal & header versions can be seen under Plus 2 / Exhaust here:

Hi Graham,
I have a S130/4 which I will be taking for a WOF check in the next day or two and could take some photos while it's on the hoist if thats any use. Also, if you are ever down this way (Nth Canterbury) you would be most welcome to come and check my car out which is pretty much original.
Cheers, Wylie
