26r Frame Versus Spyder One

I have to fit a new frame on my S4SE Elan and would like to know which one should be the best for track days and hill climbing.

A recent post on the mail list (Elan) showed me that the genuine Elan S4SE frame is more heavy , less well manufactured and less efficient than the Spyder one.
So I forget the genuine S4SE one !I still hesitate between the 26R one and the Spyder one.

Can I get the information about:
- efficiency
- price
- wieght
- rigidity

again its down to origonality !
the spyder chassis is easier to work on ,ie easier to get to the diff around the engine etc etc ,it will last longer ( if its powder coated ) ,its a lot stiffer ,the list goes on :o ;)

The Spyder makes certain jobs on the car much easier, motor mounts, etc. Spyders are well made and well thought out. They are also slightly heavier than the 26 r type. If you plan to compete in a racing association, make certain that the Spyder is a legal modification, in some groups they are not allowed.

The 26r chassis is a big improvement over the standard one. In typical TTR fashion, the upgrades are well executed, making for a much stronger unit. These chassis' can be bought painted or unpainted, so that you have the option of powder coating yours, should you so desire. The TTR chassis is not galvanized.

Either one would make a fine choice. My suggestion would be to view each one, if possible, then decide for yourself.

FWIW- I did some checking a couple of years ago and the spyder chassis is lighter than the TTR 26R chassis. As I recall
both were heavier than an original chassis, but the spyder was only a little bit more.... I'm sure I wrote this down in my planning book - I'll check and re-post later.

If the rules allow, go for a Spyder spaceframe and don't look back. So much easier to get repairs done and looks like what Colin should have built in the first place!

Do the TTR its the most acdepted by sanctioning bodies for racing
