Your engine sounds very strong. What is the build?

Yes the engine is very strong! It is a fully FIA legal 1600cc engine. We had the car on the rolling road last week and it made nearly 170bhp at the wheels! We recently fitted a brand new engine block which has made a few more hp.

Any pictures of the engine bay? What Pistons and cams are you using?

mmmmm 170 hp at the back wheels ? I know how to get close to that at the back wheels in an 1600 cc S4 Seven where the exhaust routing is much better and the engine is not to FIA historic specs. But in an FIA legal 1600 cc engine in an Elan? I wish I knew. Also wish I was allowed your FIA minimum 580 kg in an Elan and that I weighed 60 kg also :D

How many hours engine life ? ....cant be many

If I saw that the first thing I would do is check the dyno calibration

cheers

Hi Rohan,

Yes that's what I thought when we saw the figures, but we use the dyno a lot and we even had a car on it earlier in the day that produced within 2bhp of what it did on the engine dyno before it went in the car. Mileage wise we are doing 1200miles before a refresh, depends how hard you want to rev it to how long they last!

580kg is quite difficult to get down to, this car is 600kg with the large fuel tank. I also wish I weighed 60kg!!

Hi Jim, yes is indeed Stephen Bond's car, good spot! it was actually myself driving doing some setup work on behalf of Keith and Stephen. Keith drove in the swinging sixties race that weekend and finished 2nd behind a Camaro which was a great result.

Piston and cams are to our own specification, don't want to release too many secrets!!

Picture of the another 26R engine bay we have. Very similar to the car in the video.

Great footage.

The car looks quite stiff; what spring rates are you running, or is that a trade secret?!

What does the 1200 mile engine refresh consist of?

Hi Paul,

We actually went softer on the rear springs after that video as it was a bit nervous at the rear on the limit. We run 350lb on the front and 150lb on the rear. The stiffer front makes the car much more stable under heavy braking.

1200mile is a conservative figure so normally we just replace bottom end bearings and give the head a clean up and re-lap valves, check valve spring pressure etc.

I think you have just declared that your dyno is over-reading! Wot, no transmission losses?

I'm only 60 kg, can I drive it?

Hi Pete
Genuine car but with new shell from TTR. Not super lightweight shell hence the 600kg.
Most of the really competitive cars are at 580kg with all fluids and some even need ballast!!
Cheers
