New FIA spec steel crankshfts

PostPost by: batfish » Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:43 pm

Has anyone been able to obtain new steel crankshfts that are FIA spec ie rope seal. I have been waiting for my engine builder to get one since January and he says they are virtually unobtainable. If this is the case what cranks are being run in the Elans and Cortinas currently racing. I believe the cranks are forged by Farndon and then machined by QED. I have spoken to Arrows about their twincam cranks but theirs have lip seals and are therefore not FIA spec.

if you read section 7.3.6 of the current FIA regs i think you will find lip seals are allowed

I asked the UK FIA homologation expert about this when the reg changed a few years ago, he said lip seals are allowed but they have to be on modified original pattern cranksafts and not the later lip seal crankshfts, this being to prevent non homologated cranks being used.
Good news at last, my engine builder has told me he has finally recieved some new rope seal cranks.

That is great Andy . Reading App.K is a pain, and the interpretations are multiple........Furthermore, "our cranks" must not have more than 4 bolts, whick excludes the later version..... :D ( - we are talking pre -66 / periode F here...... )
