Reliable Tachometer

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 7:50 pm

Hi,

I'm having trouble finding a reliable rev counter.

My setup uses an Aldon ignitor with an Omex Clubman Rev limiter and Lucas Sports coil.

Anyone running this sort of setup, please ?

Regards,
Stuart.

If I use a reliable revcounter, - like a STACK -, I wouldn't see the need for a revlimiter. Throw it away..... :D The Ignitor or the Lucas coil will not represent any difficulties.

Hi Dag,

I will look at Stax's range.

The rev limiter is for peace of mind - stuck throttle; missed gear; etc

As ever, thanks for your help.

Regards,
Stuart.

Hi Dag
I did not realise that electronic rev limiters not allowed in Europe. Here in Australia we have to have points ignition but are allowed a separate electronic rev limiter out of respect for the cost of historic race engines. The original style Lucas mechanical rev lmiiter should be capable of modification for a 8000 rpm cut out with changes to the springs preload used?

What do other competitors use or do you all just look at the Tach closely always and have a hand on the ignition switch continually

cheers

Hi Rohan ! - I do believe we all run with a std. rotor without the limiter, but I am not sure......Yes, the original limiter may be modified I guess, either by "looser" springs or by lightening the "fly-out-weight"..??? I have no test-bench for distributors, but I guess it should be possible....I do agree it would be a sensible security messure.....!
