As far as I am aware dog engagement boxes were never homoligated for use in Lotus Elans.

Posted three times and still didn't get the spelling correct! It's "homologated".

- if you mean FIA historic ( App. K ), I firmly believe the use of a dog box in the Elan is out of the question. Generally, the use of dog boxes in cars like an Escort, is a periode "H" thing, which is post - 71 .

Good morning Dag

I agree with your comments on proper historic Elans, period F, not allowing dog boxes. However a late Elan of period H and probably G would be OK I believe. Mind you the rules for G are so difficult to understand that I may be completely wrong!

As a matter of interest having knowledge of 3 TranX gearboxes suffering seized gears onto the mianshaft, have other people experienced this problem and more important found a solution. It almost seems to happen once over 7500 is used a lot, rather than increased torque or bhp. I ahve to rebuild one for a customer, hence the interest!!

Richard, you will have to check with the homologation papers of the car to answer your question. You are right abt. the rules for periode "G", - they are difficult to grip ! If you look at en Escort, the use of dogboxes were homologated for period H, I believe together with the BDG alu-engine .
Don't really know if the Elan was ever homologated with a dog-box.....(?!!)
However, in "H" you are a bit more free to claim "periode specification", if you can prove that one particular car used this or that mod historically.
Do believe the dog-box will be a fish hard to land though, at least under FIA App. K rules......

This happened to my tranx after installing new synchro rings. The car was in neutral and I was running in the new motor. Next thing, the car jumps forward about 4 feet and stalls (thank goodness). I found that the 1st gear endfloat was the culprit. Nothing else was changed - same bearings, gears, etc. It is possible that when hot, your clearances are going away. I increased mine to the upper limit and have not had any problems and I run to 9k.
