I hope the attached are of interest.
The pic of R4 partly covered shows where I took 3 coats of paint off to reveal the ORIGINAL Red colour under the front-bumper on the nearside.

R4 engine bay. One of a series of pics taken on the day Andretti won the Japanese GP
and Hunt won championship.

From memory, the COSWORTH plate on cambox read - This engine has been modified for racing by Cosworth Engineering Ltd An address in North London was given along with some other info -

I still retain 1ELA.

Welcome to the forum Michael and thanks for adding the photos and scans.

Do you still retain 1ELA on a different car (the yellow one) or just the registration? Or is the yellow one R4?

Please post any more photos and info.

I was unable to attend the Autosport Show at the week-end but I am informed that Classic Team Lotus were displaying "the only genuine remaining Gold Bug" (some folks will, no doubt, be saying oh no it isn't). Ted Walker has confirmed that this is the car he used to own and it is recently returned from a lengthy stay in the US.

This photo by kind permission of Tony Gallagher.

A list of all the claimed 26R's by serial number ( including competitng claims) would be interesting, including details such as nose shape ( standard, fixed headlights, shapecraft nose), model S1/S2, open or shapecraft or removable hard top.

I know some will see it as an opportunity to fill in the gaps in serial numbers but by now most of the gaps have probably already been filled in and it may help identify new arrivals onto the scene a little easier.

I am just interested in the claim that 50 were made and only 500 survive - how true is it the myth

cheers

Not even close Rohan- 103 were made and all 224 are still being raced; at the last count another 80 or so were waiting to be discovered.

The build sheets do exist but I am not sure if every number is accounted for.
