Hello all,
I did not attend this race at Francorchamps...so perhaps someone can complete this post properly!
This year's event was a thriller and very hot (33°C in the Ardennes is very warm). It is a race for pre-1976 GT and Touring Cars that has become popular with competitors (63 starters)but is not really understood by spectators: it is not because admission is free that the racing or the circuit are of low quality! (No affiliation to the organiser).

Two points are mentioned above, the "3 hours" were in fact 2 hours 35 minutes (but I cannot tell you why). 4/7 Elans finished in the top 11 and 2 grabbed 1st and 3rd places.
This was obviously quite a battle as 2nd place went to an E-type, and the other places in the top 10 were taken up by 2 x 911 3.0RS, 3 x Cobras and an Escort RS2000 in 9th.
The top 4 Elans were driven by Tordoff/Jordan (1st / #600 (blue), 3rd / #10 (turquoise) Lando/Christian/Alexis Von Wedel family), 8th / #36- de Cock/Joosen and 11th Jos and Bob Stevens family.

Note the "code brown" moment for the Schlüchter / Funke Elan #88 (light blue, white roof) exiting Eau Rouge (bottoming out and/or spinning on split fuel and going into Raidillon 1).
This was very fortunately in the part of the corner with good visibility in dry conditions, unlike tragic recent single seat accidents.
Hopefully my friend "MikeSpence" was able to drop in and can enlighten us with some photos.

I did not follow this race, but have seen the very rapid Tordoff/ Jordan Elan race at Brands Hatch. In the hands of Sam Tordoff and Andrew Jordan it is a giant killer. The father John Tordoff is getting quicker and quicker having only taken up racing relatively recently.
Other great current Elan drivers I enjoy watching are David Pittard (Nurburgring 24 hour winner in the Ferrari this year), Nigel Greensall, James Littlejohn, Andy Wolfe, John Davison and Jake Hill.
Looking forward to seeing the Elans do battle in the Spa 6 hours latter this year. Quite often the highest non GT40 finisher.

It was most impressive.
A friend of mine was in one of the 3.0 RS Porsches and he was unimpressed to have been beaten by Pre-66 cars at his home circuit.
Andrew
PS for the Spa 6h it would be much fairer and safer if the refueling for cars over 3 litres was limited to 60 litres.
