"Someday your are the windshield and someday your are the bug" - Richard Petty (maybe).
I had hoped to post a more positive report about our 3rd trip to the SVRA Races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway however during Friday qualifying #4 piston developed a unwanted compression release in the intake valve relief.
Great clouds of oil vapor discharged from the cam cover vent and our weekend was done.
22 race weekends on this engine. Time for a overall freshening up.

Not a lot of carbon on the pistons for 22 race weekends ( I assume you have not cleaned it up) - maybe running to lean which would not have helped the piston top especially if it was a little to thin at the bottom of the inlet cutout.

4 new pistons, a timing chain, 5 sprockets and 2 months later its ready for action once more....
Lime Rock Historic Festival 34. Gotta love the look of a 26R bodied Elan from this angle.....
4 races and 4 checkered flags equals a successful weekend....

Clark,
I meant to post these earlier, your rejuvenated engine in the Elan, you leading Alan Tosler into the esses in the first practice session on Friday, and you and Carl Whitney discussing a certain moving chicane that looked like a Maserati (with Gary Anderson listening in).
