Elan Races in 2012

As we are no longer going to have an Elan race at the Silverstone Classic, let's share some joy elsewhere!
There are currently two Elan races slated to take place, one at Brands Hatch in August and one at Donington in September. The races will be run by the effervescent Classic Sports Car Club, who know how to treat competitors and spectators well. It's early days yet, so not a huge amount of information. Find out more by visiting these sites and viewing the Autosport announcement which came out this week:

The CSCC are great and entry fees are sensible, I will do both races in my Elan. .. The HRCC wanted ? 600 plus for 20 mins round Silverstone, not my most popular place to race and so they had very little interest. The CSCC will be about ? 360 to ? 400 but for that its 1/2 hour practice and a 40 minute race ... no doubt with one OR two drivers allowed ...great fun. All Elans with there original body shape are OK running on 60 profile of larger tyres.... no Mod Sports Cars !

We have just received this missive explaining the race and entry requirements:
Dear Lotus Elan Driver,
I am writing to you to let you know that the entry form is now available
for the Classic Sports Car Club's 'Elan 50' race that will take place at
the Brands Hatch Lotus Festival on the Grand Prix Circuit on 18th /19th
August 2012.
Please find attached a copy of the supplementary regulations and the entry
form together with a membership form for the Classic Sports Car Club.
We already have a large number of Elans that regularly race with us that
are members of the CSCC. It is a prerequisite that all drivers in the race
are members of the Club. This costs ?39 and runs for a whole year from
when you join.
We have managed to keep the cost of the race down to ?295 as we are very
much hoping to fill the 44 car grid available on the GP circuit at Brands
Hatch. If we do manage it, it is something never before seen and a fitting
tribute to your support and the Elan itself.
There has been huge interest in these races commemorating Colin Chapmans
iconic sportscar and together with our Elan driving friends on the
continent and in Club Lotus, we expect a one-off opportunity to be part of
something pretty special.
The timetable is not yet available but I have been told by the race
director that we shall be signing on and scrutineering on the Saturday
afternoon with a late qualifying session. The race itself will be shortly
after lunch on the Sunday. This should give people ample time to reach
their ferry slot if necessary. The race is to be a highlight of the
Lotus Festival and we are expecting large crowds.
I have also attached a copy of the regulations which we are keeping
deliberately simple with just two classes for FIA spec cars running on
Dunlop Historics and for cars running on Blue Book 1a or 1b tyres
(Classic). There will be TWO race winners, one for the FIA class and one
for the Classic class with awards for both.
There will be another race at the CSCC meeting at Donington Park on
September 15th/16th where there will also be a chance for you to enter
other races. This is unfortunately not possible at the Lotus Festival due
to time restrictions.
There will be testing available on the Friday before the meeting but only
on the Indy circuit not the GP. This is bookable direct with the circuit.
We have gathered together as many contact details (over 50 names) as we
can but are sure to have missed some people. If you know of any other Elan
drivers please do forward this email on to them, the more the merrier.
If you have any further questions please feel free to give me a call at
the office below or ring Philip Rothwell on 07964 365259 or email on
[email protected]
The race will be run under MSA regulations, so if you are a foreign
competitor who has not yet competed in the UK please contact me if you
need advice on complying with the MSA regulations.
Kind regards
