Paul posted the link to some new blocks being offered at
http://www.davidgathercole.co.uk/index.html

Block and head photos

Cast alloy and cast iron blocks with big bores. FVA and FVC heads along with engine kits for ?24,500 (plus VAT). Kind of a lot of money for the kit but there isn't a lot of alternatives for this kind of eye candy.

oh ya, David and Lorraine have an S1 too, does anyone know them or the Elan?

I guess this stuff is getting around

Gary,
I do indeed know David. I used to mechanic for David's uncle Jim, initially in HSCC races, then later in the Steigenberger Hotels Supersports Cup which became the Orwell Super Sports Cup. http://www.orwell-supersportscup.com/Ossc_uk.htm.
Jim and I became acquainted at Donnington when I was looking after another car. My Elan was parked in the paddock. Jim managed to roll his 26R in practice! A fellow competitor who also ran an Elan knew me and introduiced Jim to me so that he could beg bits from me to allow him to take part in the race. When the person who's car I looked after retired from racing, I offered my services to Jim on a regular basis.
After the Elan, Jim aquired a Martin sports racing car, followed by a Daren then the Coldwell, which David mentions on the his web site. I met David when his races coincided with ours, which wasn't that often as we raced in the HSCC series at the time while he raced the MGs. David's dad was also into Elans. I believe they developed a five speed conversion but as far as I am aware it wasn't marketed.
The S1 came from a collection in Canada as far as I know so someone there might know its history or you could drop David a line. He has a contact form on the web site.
