Elan @ Le Mans

PostPost by: Octane » Tue Oct 27, 2009 12:45 pm

Hi All,
Firstly, I'm a bit Lotus fan... Love the Type 14 Elites, and Elans and pretty much all of Champans open wheelers.

Secondly, I'm doing some research for a Sim Racing Mod called Historic GT & Touring Cars for the sim rFactor (and for my own knowledge and benefit of course!)
If you havent tried it, you should, its incredibly realistic, and a cheap form of motorsport for those who cant afford to track their cars.

Here's a couple of screenshots from the sim with some Elans from our Mod racing around Australia's Oran Park (This track was laser scanned and GPS accurated for more realism  )

Now, I'm after any and all information on famous Lotus Elans for an update to the mod.
I'm particularly keen to hear about Elans that raced Le Mans, or any other big endurance events etc.
Any photo's, drivers names, specific car specs, and 1-off modifications done to them, finishing positions, years raced etc etc would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a good opportunity for everyone to pool their knowledge!

Thanks!

Awesome. I am a big fan of rFactor. Didn't know there was an Elan mod for it. I will have to download it when I get back home.
If you think that is realistic....have you tried Grand Prix Legends? Nothing like racing a Lotus 49 around Spa Francorchamps at 190 mph!

Its not an Elan specific mod. It has LOADS of different Historic cars from early 60's through to mid 70's.

Alot of the models were taken from the GTL but we're in the process of making some more scratch built cars for an update.
There are already many Elans in the mod, but I was hoping to include some of the more famous cars aswell rather than just those doing the rounds at historic meets.

You can find the od download here: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Historic%20GT%20%26%20Touring%20Cars

I'm yet to race GPL. With the varienty and quality of the thousands of rFactor mods about, I probably wont get to it. There are some very good 60's F1 mods on the way from various people. Try the F1 1979 mod! Now THAT is a blast.

My league (onlineracingaustralia.com) are running a series for these, and the Historic GT cars next year.

Thanks for the response Christian! We already have the mod available with 10 or so different Elan liveries ready to play, but I'm looking to add more of the famous Elan's to the next update.

Thanks again, these are the details I was looking for. Its possible some are already in the mod so I'll find some photo's to copy the liveries for the ones that aren't in the mod and add them to the next update.

Did they all run the same 1600 Lotus TwinCam? Or did some use different engines?
Does anyone know gearbox and diff ratio's?
Weights?
Avg fuel consumption?

Octane ,
All with 1558cc Lotus twincam engine .
Final ratio 3.89 , 4.05 & 4.10 depend of track with 4 speed gear box .
Weights were between 580kg and 635kg depend of category GTS/GT
On GT Legends , the engine & chassis are settled nearly perfect (even the pop up headlights !). Noise too high from exterior , and diff noise missing from interior .

Thanks! Fantastic info! I'll pass this onto the guys in charge of sound and physics.

The original 3D models were taken from GTL, so they are the same shape as far as I know. Just the physics/sounds etc etc were changed for more realism.
