Nice pic

Is that a GT3? I fancy one of those. Last of the 2.2 turbos.

I thought the gt3 were all 2.0l turbo partly due to hefty tax in Italy above 2.0l

Please don't hate me but I am considering combining the two!
I want to put a 900 series in my plus 2 to win a pre 75 hill climb championship.

If you need more power, wouldn't a BDA fit straight in, and be close to original Lotus TC?

BDA would be more sensible but way more expensive.
I am told that Lotus built a prototype Elite using a plus 2 with a 907 engine, it nearly made it to production, and now it will make it to my production line :D 8)

The 907 is slanted, and much wider, there is a discussion thread covering major chassis and body mod requirements.... look how wide the front suspension turrets are on a 501...

Oh wow, that is amazing. I don't think it could be moved back either as it is so long.
I'll rethink my idea.

If building a Plus 2 as an every day road car and wanting up to around 200 hp then a big capacity twink is the easiest way. if you want modern reliability then just make sure you build it properly, if you want modern drive-ability then look to modern fuel injection and ignition mapping and a few other mods.

if wanting above 200 hp in a road car then need to step up to a big capacity BDx. If wanting more than a BDx then a Cosworth turbo YB is probably the easiest step from an engine perspective but the rest of the car will need major work to handle that sort of power .

Its a slippery slope

Rohan, you are right. I am aiming for around 150-180 BHP that would be about it.
I can't afford a massive engine, I just want a quick car that doesn't have a zebec in it.

I think we are safely beyond originality in this thread, why not a Spyder Zetec conversion? Oops, I see I am late to this notion.

150 to 180 hp achievable in a relatively cheap twink road build based on a big bore, long stroke but standard iron component bottom end ( it can be a 1500 or 1600 block ) and a ported original head and modern high lift short duration cams. Max revs to 6800 rpm so cast iron crank and standard rods and cheap pistons means it costs not much more than a full rebuild to standard specifications. Just finished helping a friend build an engine like this that had 144 hp at the rear wheels when tuned on the rolling road.... equivalent to 170 hp at the flywheel.

Not hard to do but lots of details you need to work on to get right to get that sort of result. Not many engine builders understand the full scope of what to do and do it well but even a poor attention to details will get you around 150hp at the flywheel with the basic build elements

cheers

Ok thank you. That is very useful.
Maybe a TC is the direction I should go, although, I haven't given up yet...
