We?ve finally gotten around to chucking up the aluminium plate I bought years ago - we?re going to fit a Fidanza clutch insert & a Renault Dauphine ring gear and machine it to suit a lip seal crank

Just a simple job! ;)

For those looking for an aluminium flywheel for their Elans: I searched high and low and finally called Fidanza since they no longer show them in their catalogue-the salesman said "Oh, we have those on the shelf" ! and sent me one-in exchange for about $350. Nice quality and works well.

Good price. I have the Fidanza flywheel as well. I paid substantially more.

Saves 7.5 pounds over stock one. No loss of drivability on the street. Lends itself to a free revving engine.

Oneowner: Something to consider that did not occur to me when I was building the engine. The crankshaft that I put in my engine is a fully counterweighted, 76mm stroke item that is ex Formula Atlantic--I seem to think that you are using a similar design crankshaft? I weighed the crankshaft and compared it to a stock 72mm stroke cast crank recently. It is about 8 lbs heavier. I weighed the two cranks because I was trying to figure out why the engine in my car was not far more " revvier" despite having an aluminium flywheel. I presume the extra rotational weight coupled with the longer stroke makes the difference?

As Chunky would say, we?re still ?adding lightness?! By doing a bit of heavy lifting with Walter the Indexing Table to get there!

I?ll weigh it in the next day or two & let you know!
