Bearing/Bush extractor

PostPost by: martinbrowning » Sun May 25, 2014 11:57 am

Hi there,
Would anybody care to recommend a good quality bearing and bush extractor set please? Looking on EBay, most seem to be manufactured by one of two companies that I have not heard of. I don't want a dodgy cheap import set but one that will still be of service 10-20 years down the line!

Thanks

Martin,

By bearing/bush extractor I am guessing you mean a puller of some type. I have a couple of "Sykes Pickavant" pullers. This company basically makes special tools, mainly for the motor trade. They are not cheap, but neither are they the most expensive. I have had these pullers for 10-20 years, and have not broken them. They are both hydraulic pullers and are occasionally very useful. You might be better advised to borrow if you have any friends in the engineering / automotive world. You could pool your resources with some local lotus friends, as the cost is high if you only have occasional use.

We have all heard the phrase "a bad workman blames his tools" but good tools will turn a chore into a pleasure, and last a lifetime if cared for.

Sykes Pickavant are the minimum standard, you can get better but not much, and you will pay a lot more.

Their hydraulic centre is very good, you get 10-12 ton force with finger tip effort.

If my cheap made in china one breaks that is what I will buy.
