Drop Link Dilema

PostPost by: zog » Thu Oct 04, 2018 10:21 pm

Why would the drop links on my Spyder frame be pushed all the way back? Shouldn't they be straight up and down?

Obviously, you must have checked the sway bar arm length, but I'm sure you've done that, right. Is the sway bar a stock one or a locally made one? If you have a source to make new ones, I'd like to have some larger dia ones made for my 20/22.

You look to have non standard tubular wishbones, are they correct, is the wheelbase correct when measured from rear hub to front hub, are these wishbones handed and on correctly. just a thought, otherwise as already suggested, is the anti-roll bar the correct dimensions? Has to be one or the other?

Sorry for the slow responce, I got side tracked....

Yes, I measured the bar. It is a Spyder bar and the same length as a stock solid bar.. All the parts came with the Spyder chassis. Maybe I'll send the picture to Spyder....

Thanks

Maybe the bottom wishbones you have put the front one where the back one should be and visa versa

Still scratching my head on this one. The A arms are the same. There is not a front and a rear.

What about the uprights? Would it make a difference if I had the left and the right reversed?

I noticed in the manual that the S1/S2 models have 3 degree of caster while the S3/S4 have 7 degrees. Could that mean something? Still scratching.

The drop links themselves are handed, I seem to remember. Is it possible to fit them on the wrong side and mess things up?

No chance, Nick, the twist is the opposite hand to compensate for the forked chassis, unless Spyder has its own system.

Can you measure the track from front to rear hubs and get a comparison figure from either the manual or someone else on here. Might indicate where the problem lies if the track is shorter than anyone else?s.

The drop links move forward and aft as the suspension travels up and down. Depending on the ride height when measured they may not be vertical. Just need to ensure they dont hit the chassis cross bar

Sorry if I am being daft, but are we over thinking this?

The anti role bar is to control the lateral movement and I do not see anything that prevents this?

Yes I can see that the drop links appear to lean back perhaps more than usual, but they seem to be doing the job of adequately locating the ARB.

I don?t really see anything wrong. Just my two tuppence worth, so sorry if I a missing the point.

Cheers

I've been thinking I was missing something, but I can't see a problem either.

To put your mind to rest, mine face slightly backwards too. They have never given any problem. Sorry about the years of crud.....

You will see that they are on the outside of the frame as suggested by Spyder. Paragraph K.
