Hi Paul,
i didn't soda blast myself. The Garage that painted my car used a specialist for the soda blasting that i visited. For soda blasting you need someone who really knows the technic so the grp doesn't get damaged. He can try different media/products at hand.
That way the Car keep it's nice curves, was quick very good result, the Garage could keep the price from being crazy.
Just a reminder i live in Brittany France before you ask his address

interesting : could you comment a bit on your experience of the soda blasting (with photos if available, esp. of gelcoat), e.g. number of layers to be removed, what hand finish was required if applicable... I did make note that this place could be hours away, but a reliable, good quality work is certainly worth a second thought (delay and price in PM if you will for my information).

thank you!

The Garage took about 10 weeks because at different stages he left it in the paint Cabin for 1 or 2 days at 25°C for solvents to evaporate. I told him i was in no rush and he keep his price of 4300Euros which for me it was very correct. The Car is a 1976 TVR 3000M with a Beige Vinyl Roof and body is Onyx Brun metallic (original colour).

Thanks for body updates, I've heard of the technique but on metal, guess good for hard to get to places and presumably can be washed out as well. I'm not at the stage of thinking about body yet, just trying to get ideas on methods and prices - one place I was referred to on line say they only hand sand, but at a cost of course!

Cheers

I meant to enquire about the soda blasting of the paint... are you saying that they removed the paint (was it down to the gelcoat everywhere ? how many layers to remove?), preped and painted for the quoted amount ? that would be very competitive indeed...

Hi Nige,
it was only the Bonnet on my TVR 3000M that was Soda blasted to stop damage to it's lovely curves.
The rest was hand rubbed down with Blocks to get better planety/flatness and reduce as many of the original "Blackpool Rocket" Ripples as possible.
