tachymeter Elan S3

PostPost by: geni » Sun Jun 19, 2022 10:47 am

I need to replace my Elan S3 Tachymeter which looks like the +2 except for the colour of the inner dial which is mouse grey.
I would like to know the correct part number of the original. Who can help me?
For the black inner dial, is there a specialist who can reproduce it? What would you do and what restoration facility would you recommend?

I would ask them first:
https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/lotus/elan
about ordering just the face

Does it need repair or does it work correctly ?
1964 S1 (at paint shop)

1969 S4 FHC (at BB's home)

Geni,
most specialists that do instruments have the ability to print new dials. So if you only need a different ‚face‘, it should be straightforward. I can recommend a shop close to Cologne, that has done work for me, but I am sure that you will find local specialists. Converting my S3 MPH instrument to KMH including revision was €350,-. Unfortunately, the speedo drive in my 5 speed box failed soon after. As this is TÜV/ contrôle technique sensitive and the replacement of the speedo drive requires engine& gearbox removal for the Elan, I had to go for a new, electronic Smith replica tach. These are only available in MPH, so a new dial is on the wish list…..

Or, you can have a little fun and print them yourselves.
