Dashboard removal

Hi there, I have a Plus 2 1972 - I am about to remove the dashboard and have read several forum discussions and the workshop manual.

In terms of the electrical connections - once the dash is released, am I best disconnecting at the ends of the dash loom or at the dash / switches. Logic tells me at the end of the loom, but not sure how easy this will be.

Thoughts and guidance appreciated!

Hi James, I found it easier to remove the dash with all the wiring attached. It's a lot easier (I think) to disconnect the harness connections at the bulkhead / under the glovebox and take out the dash as a complete item, also a lot easier to install with every connection already checked / changed. A lot less skin removal on your knuckles as well!

I removed the connectors from the individual instruments. Probably because I didn't know there were harness connections at the bulkhead .

It was fairly straightforward, just remember to label everything, draw a sketch because what you have doesn't necessarily tally with the wiring diagram and take plenty of photographs before disconnecting anything

My loom had no bulkhead connectors ! It just went through the bulkhead and onwards

I disconnected all dash mounts and the colum and tipped the dash forward.
Documented it top to bottom. Disconnecting and tagging each level as I worked down (Including heater control)

Actually a lot easier than you think

Don't get dispondent with the rats nest before you put it all back again !!!

Don't forget to document which gauge goes where before you strip them out too...
