RD's Alternator comes from what vehicle

PostPost by: Famous Frank » Wed Feb 25, 2015 1:24 am

A friend of mine has a bad Alternator on his Elan Sprint that was purchased from RD Enterprises years ago. Please note this is not a new Alternator. It was purchased numerous years ago so this is not anything bad regarding RD. He's been great over the years.

My question is: The Alternator RD Enterprises uses in their Alternator Conversion Kit comes from what vehicle?
Does anyone know the year and model of what car they came off of? Or maybe a part number of some sort so my good friend can go to a nearby AutoZone or the like to purchase a new one.

Many thanks,
Frank

Hello Frank,

I bought mine through another supplier than RD, but I think its the same kit. It is from an 89-91 Suzuki Samurai. I had to replace it beyond warranty because I spun it too fast  . I cross referenced the part number at the local NAPA store. They had one in stock for about $80 with a lifetime warranty. I think I still have the box. If you want I will dig it out and get the part number.

Why not just get it rebuilt? Should be good as new for a smaller investment! :?

There are a number of forklifts that use this or similar alternators.

Thank you guys, you have all been a great help. Not only will this info help get my friends Sprint back on the road but at these low prices, I'll probably buy one just to keep on the shelf!

Hello Frank,

That's what I did.

I bought the kit from Gustofson Machine, it appears to be identical to the RD Ent. kit. The replacement alternator I found at my local NAPA store is for a 95 Suzuki Samurai, 1.3L, JL or JS. The replacement alternator is new, made in China. I has been in the car almost 3 years without a problem, comes with a lifetime warranty.
Mfgr is World Parts Systems Part # is 14684N. It replaces a Denso 100211-141, 100211-155, 100211-407

Gustafson supplies his alternator conversion & gear reduction starters to Ray (RD Enterprises), Dave Bean & JAE. Nice guy to chat with & very focused on customer service.

Well done for posting part numbers!

For what it is worth, I don't know that the last letter matters. Mine is 14684A, not N. May have something to do with the year, as mine was listed as being for a 1986-9 Suzuki Samurai. Dan

The supply of parts in USA beats UK hands down.

I have got at factory price, the same unit for 150.00 pounds.

If I go to a motor sport dealer they want 250.00 pounds.

Not complaining about the UK maker, they are on my doorstep and creating jobs.

They also make a very neat starter for tight spaces.
