Do you have some experience of new headlamp with plastic bowl like this :

Yes me. They are rubbish. I got some when restoring my car about 10 years ago (may be improved now I don't know). The outer chrome rim didn't clip on securely enough and kept falling off when the lights went up and down. Not good to loose these as they aren't cheep so I chucked them and went back to the standard metal ones.

I don't think you are supposed to put them back on. Its all part of the design concept of weight reduction.

Can you imagine how much effort Ron and the design team had to put into persuading Colin that the (rarely seen in daylight) chrome rims were actually required. In reality they are pretty much non functional and can be a real devil to remove, I have also seen cars where the chrome rim pushes the light unit and disturbs the alignment.
