Ideas on adapting a T9 from MGB to an S4 Elan?

PostPost by: tdskip » Thu Sep 22, 2022 11:17 pm

Hello gentlemen, hope it has been a good week for everyone so far (financial markets notwithstanding).

I local British car shop just let me know they have a spare T9 that was originally going into an MGB. To adapt that for use in an S4 Elan I'd need a different;

-tail shaft
-bellhousing
-shifter set up

I know that Voights sells a kit that comes with everything but are those bits above available seperately from any vendors? I suppose I could also call Voights and ask nicely...

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

The tricky part is the tailhousing /shift relocation and that’s where Voights adds most of their value . The bell housing and other pieces can be had off the shelf . You will also end up getting a new drive shaft and that can be done at your local driveline shop . I suppose you will need to fabricate a gearbox to frame mount . I am sure one of the t9 guys will be along shortly to fill in the gaps . I went the tremec route for a number of reasons ..

So maybe I should be thinking T5?

Thanks for the responses.

I have driven a MGB roadster belonging to a friend with this S peed gearbox and it was a revelation with a high quality shift. I hope this is useful.

People do seem to like them, I have a Toyota five speed in my 1967 Mgb in it updates the car but without changing its character too much.

Thanks for the reply..
