771 crankshaft

PostPost by: gjz30075 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 5:44 pm

I've got an opportunity to get all the internals from an early Fiesta, which means the crank is a 771M. The main caps look like they'd work and maybe the pan but is it worth it?

Anyone fit a 771 crank?

Thanks

Greg,
I have no definitive information but I have heard that because the Fiesta is FWD the flywheel flange/mounting is different, I think it can be adapted but don't know for sure.
I have also heard that a Fiesta 1800 diesel crank can be made to fit but again I have no information, maybe a web search would find something.

I believe its shorter, . Caps will work but you will likely need a line hone possibly line bore.

They don't fit - completely different where the timing gear locates.

It seems strange to think that you got the fiesta over in US but nothing like the mk2 escorts - consequently engine parts must be hard to come by!!

I'm sure someone in UK would be willing to send you a 711m crank though!

What were/are you trying to achieve with this crank?

If the price was/is right, I was just going to get it for a spare for a possible future build. I might go for the whole internal stuff, keep the caps and go to the recycling center with the rest for some lunch money and end up with free caps. Just thinking out loud here. They guy wants all of it gone.

You would have needed all different internals if you were going to fit it into a 1558 based T/C block as the crank stroke is 77.62mm/3.056".
