Looks nice to me.
Personal choice and imho no worse than fitting a Zetec and Spyder chassis.

Having seen one, and only ever one, they aren’t too bad. Styling is personal preference as always but that version was better than the later one by a long way.
It’s a rare, fun car that isn’t a lotus.

I am seriously tempted on this, but I bet there will be a problem transferring it to France...

It looks to be a well looked after car - does anyone here, per chance, know the car?

You should be able to register in France because it is in the EU and has had approuval in Germany. Plus no Tax to pay.
For me they were an evolution of what an Elan could be and never pretended to be a Lotus. Much like the Mazda MX5. Vegane Tune had a very good reputation in tuning and developement of the Twink engine. Like Ford that went on to create the 16V RS 1600 in the Escort.
Personal choice and for me very nice. I already have an Elan Sprint and 2 TVR M series so have enough to keep me busy.

In theory, yes! However the car may well have been first sold to Germany before the CoC introduction and there it stayed. Approval into France will be courtesy of FFVE who may not recognise Vegane as a manufacturer in their own right (I think there were only about 100 cars made) and will class it as a kit car requiring it to go to Paris for examination. This in itself is not a problem, other than I have heard of importers having to pay bills in excess of 6000€ for the privilege

Other factors at play as well, so it is only at temptation stage for now.

FFVE is only for Carte a Grise collection.
For type approuval as far as i know it was by UTAC near Monthery in the past.

Not so now...

First thing after an import without a CoC is send all details with photos to FFVE. They then scour available records etc (for Lotus, apparently it is easy as there is, in their words, a good archive dept) they ensure it has not been modified and might, if they are suspicious ask you to visit a CT centre, and eventually issue an attestation. This is then sent to ANTS with the quittas fiscal etc where it is recognised as a CoC. ANTS then send out the CG. I have had no problems with three cars to date, but they are run of the mill, easily verifiable types.

Already I am hitting a wall - a call to them comes back that they do not have Vegantune or Evante on their database so looks like it might need examination on the face of it :(

Well a few changes then good to know.
Before Brexit i imported and registered 6 different cars. I used the FFVE 5 times and also then the quitus fiscale was free at l'Hotel des Impots.
Cheers for update info.

I blow hot and cold on the final style. I am not sure they cocked it up, but I do think they could have been more subtle with both the front and rear. Maybe a good thing though, as it is an Elan evolution and not a replica. Did Mazda make a better job? Yes, probably.

As said, the MK2 a bit worse after Fleur de Lys added their bit, having said that, my preference would be a Mk2 for the scarcity, but of course the Mk1 for the Vegantune engine...

I like the Mazda MX5 RF very nice and been driven in one not bad. But for modern sportscars i could easily crack for a Honda S2000. 240bhp and upto 9 000rpm mmm not bad.

Nothing wrong with the styling that a Sawzall and some Bondo can't fix. :D

I have a chum who has one and it is very nice - but he says it is quite tiring as to get it to go you have to rev the socks off it. D
