PostPost by: gino1 » Thu May 25, 2023 12:52 pm

Can anyone please tell me if all Elan S4's had knock-ons fitted or did some have bolt-ons fitted ?
Thanks

Standard S4's had bolt on wheels, S/E's KO's.

I believe that knock-on’s were an option on S4 cars.

As Brian says above...could be either, my standard S4 had K/O fitted from new.

You're right, plenty standard of S2's, 3's and 4's had KO's.

I think that here in the US, most all S4 models officially imported were S/E versions so k/o were pretty much standard fitment.

True. However, if a buyer wanted K/O wheels, the dealer was glad to oblige for a modest fee. Mine was delivered with bolt on wheels, but replaced with K/Os.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

It’s not a simple matter fitting a different wheel, all wheel hubs are different and I think that the front uprights used on bolt-on are the early type with smaller diameter stub axle and wheel bearings! So it may be as on many occasions you got what the factory had.
