So what does your Elan/Plus2 look like today?

White S4 Elans are built to travel. This picture is out in Eastern Washington state. Part of journey to nowhere back in August, 1997. I left work on a Thursday morning at 9am and got back 3 weeks plus on the Monday at 6 am. About 8500 miles and several cases of motor oil later.

A Sunday day-trip down to the Florida Keys with my friend and his Series 1 E-type. Brunch at Sid and Roxie's Green Turtle Inn on Islamorada (no turtles consumed.) Elan in Margaritaville. :D

Sadly, mine looks much the same as it has for the last 15 years since I recovered it from my parents' back garden.

Ross

That is a superb picture and collection of cars.

Thanks Galway Guy - never heard of them. Stick to sticky Yokos myself.

Ross:

We met at Pacific Raceways in Seattle when you raced your Elan at the vintage races one 4th of July weekend. I glommed on to ask lots of questions about vintage racing an Elan, as it would be my dream to do so. If I recall, you purchased a 7 from an ELCC (Evergreen Lotus Car Club) member that was selling at the time after I was able to make the introductions. Glad to find you on this list, and just wondering which of the cars in the photo was yours. Didn't you also purchase a Type 14 Elite at some point? And wondering if you're still racing.

Great to see you around still.

Hi Dave,
Of course I remember you and your hospitality and support when the three Colorado guys came to play in the Northwest. To answer your question, all three are mine and the Seven is the car you steered me toward and essentially made me buy. The Elite is also from your neck of the woods previously owned by a George Hamling of Woodinville for many years prior to my purchase. Good to see you are bringing back an Elan. Let me know if I can assist in any way.

By the way, NYLOC is the North Yorkshire Owners Club in Northern England, or, as they call themselves, the plastic nuts, and a couple of their members are on holiday in Colorado so we went for a little mountain drive.

Today we went to the Atlanta Historics to spend time with old friends - Not a bad turn out of vintage cars for an HSR event - there was even a Maserati 200S there.

George - superb colour scheme!!

What are the little white dots around the weather strip on your hardtop window?

Hi Steve,

Thanks, I like a sliver hardtop painted to match the bumpers ( shot in single stage metallic , just to torment myself) I made the rear screen out of thin lexan to keep the weight down , I attached it using aluminum pop rivets , the black surround is paint not rubber and is used to hide the debris that will find its way between the plastic and fiberglass lip . The whole top can't weigh more than 4 kilos/10 lbs -

This is my Elan this afternoon just after we returned from a four day 800 mile drive around Ireland in aid of a children's hospice. We travelled with the Triumph Classic Owners Club of Ireland. Forty two cars, sixty two people and great camaraderie. We raised ?41000. My car's only wobbler was a failed bonnet locking mechanism. I cured it with an acre of duct tape. The car got happier the more we drove. I got 37 MPG.
