I believe the blue is the hand brake. Red should be alternator not
charging. Yellow??

This is the way I figure it. Remember these are the dash warning lights.
Fuel, turn indicator, high beam and ignition warning lights are in the
speedo and tach. These are separate indicators.
I have red for park brake. Red for brake fail. Blue for heated rear screen.
Yellow for hazard flashers.
Seems logical. Or does it.

The following is what I recall for an S3 Coupe': Blue is on the lower leftof the Tach and is the high beam indicator. The tach lower right is red and for ignition indication/charging. The speedo has a green indicator at the bottom used for turn signal indication. The parking brake indicator is red and is mounted separately in a hole on the dash just below the tach.
I'm not an authority on +2s, but believe that most British cars of that erause these "colours" as a convention, and probably, in spite of what is said about British electrics, a standard. Yes, there is a standard, British Standard BS-AU7, which covers wiring color codes.
I believe the above to be correct, but will settle for simply "helpful">

The S4 Elan owners handbook says amber for handbrake warning lamp
and red for brake fail warning lamp (N. America only). The LHD dash
picture
also shows a hazard indicator light - no indication of what color
though. The
+2 probably used the same colors.
The high beam (?color), ignition/charge (red) and direction indicator
warning
(?color) are in the tach, tach and speedometer respectively. (I can't
get to the
gauges right now to check the colors, and the handbook doesn't say).

In the sixty's a lot of the British cars had an amber warning light
for the main beam and I remember reading they were changing to blue
to conform with international standards, I think from then it became:
blue = main headlight beam
green = indicators (left/right)
red = emergency indicators (hazard)
red = ignition (generator/alternator)
red = hand brake/brake fail light/fluid light
amber = this is used as a warning, example: heated rear screen or
any non critical item.
Red is usually a critical item (although I dont know if ign. is
critical)
My Sprint follows this system and is how it left the factory.
