Spartplug boots

PostPost by: steveww » Fri Aug 05, 2005 12:45 pm

Having had the sparkplugs in and out a few times recently I have noticed
that a certain ammount of crud accumulates around the base of the
sparklug which can fall in to the cylinder if one is not careful. Does
anyone know if there are any sparkplug boots available that will pull
the sparkplug well to stop the crud falling in?

I bought VW plug covers at a local Bug shop to solve this problem.
The plug covers are used to seal the plug leads on the engine tin of
air cooled VWs. Fits tight and inexpensive.

I always give mine a blast with the compressor to get the crud out before
pulling the plugs. If you don't have a compressor you could head down the
service station and use the tyre inflator. Good excuse for a drive.

Since we are talking about spark plugs et al. I wondered if anyone knows
of the number for the distributor cap to fit a TC lucas 23D distributor.
I have seen some vendors offering the cap and magnetox leads for around
?60. I would like to moderise this part of my ignition, as the TC
rebuild is nearing completion. ( back on the road by September?)

Steve;

The plug covers are for Type 1 engines. The covers slip over
standard plugs and you fit your wires on the plug. You don't need VW
wires for this fix. They fill the plug well completely.

Steve;

Glad to hear they worked. They only cost $0.75 US over here!
