diff Clearance

Hi all,
I've got an intermittent knock when changing gear also occasional
'hammering' when I reverse but only when I slip the clutch. I've checked the
diff mounts and it feels secure. however the diff seems to be touching the
lower chassis section !!... Can anyone give me a rough guess what the
chassis / diff clearance should be and how much swearing is needed when
changing the mounts.
TIA

Jo,
In addition to the torque rod situation, the lower part of the chassis could
be bent from jacking up the car and the dif could be in contact with it. Mine
was bent so much that the dif wouldn't clear it when I was attempting to
remove it. A little persuasion with a sledge hammer took care of that.
