The Screen is in ---- Thanks to all

I reckon I do feel lucky ) and I certainly am learning my
limitations.

The screen finally went in this afternoon.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the discussion.

FWIW I had to put the rubber in the aperture and fit the screen to
it starting at the top and working downwards. Not the easiest
because gravity is against you. Starting with the bottom in first
the top just would not go in on one side!


Now I take it out again to paint the shell but at least I know it
fits the hole! )

Wow, you must really feel lucky to pop it out and try again. Almost like playing Russian Roulette and pulling the trigger twice.

I do fit the description voiced earlier about the sacrelidge of letting someone else work on MY car, but I hired a professional and I helped him when he came to my home to do it. It wasn't the easiest installation he'd ever done. Ten years earlier, I broke a screen trying to install it in my Mk2 Cortina, so I had first hand experience.

Aren't you supposed to pull the trigger twice then? )

Roger, you have no idea how much I would like to leave it in now!

The problem is, if I don't paint under the screen rubber I'd KNOW I
hadn't painted under it and it would niggle me. I know the car will
not rust and people looking at the car would probably never
know...........but it would niggle me!

As for farming out work I do not have a problem with it. We cannot
all be good at everything and to be honest I would be very
suspicious of someone who said he/she was (Yes I have met them!).

leave the filler strip out, that and a few strategic spacers will make it as perfect as you can get it.

certainly better than tempting fate, odds are that you will gouge thefresh paint anyway...
