HP /HC oilpump-problems

Rohan, - you may be right...But, in order to be able to say "I have done everything"........ you know..
Regarding the baffling, - it is literally a fully closed sump, with only a hole for the pick-up and returnpipe. Again, you may well be right, but then at least I am 110% sure....

Dag

How big is the hole for the pick up and do you have the original strainer screen on the pickup.

The reason for the question is that if you have just a small hole in the top tray for the pick up pipe and have removed the strainer screen to enable the sump to be fitted then your failure may have been due to something big enough going up the inlet pipe into the pump causing it to jam.

regards

As a follow up to all the pump questions and comments.
Racing this weekend, and I usually see 70 psi at 7500.
In practice only 50/55!
Still within spec but why the drop. Then out of parc ferme after practice and revving the negine 70 psi again.
No chance to remove the pump, and without removing the steering column it was impossible to take off the pump, so decided to race like this. But after warm up back to 70. I did have a red piece of tape on the gauge at 50 psi so I could see where the needle was in the race!!
I am 99% certain it is the relief valve sticking and an old friend in UK who builds race engines agreed. He takes standard pump apart and files the sides of the plunger before assembling.
Interesting he uses a standard 55 psi pump and has very powerful engines reving to 8500+.
My HP/HV pump comes out tomorrow to be repaced by the spare standard pump!!

Richard, the new pumps seems crap. Just spoke to another engine builder i UK of high (!!) standard earlier this week , who confirms this! He claims that a new pump is not a finished products coming off the shelf. It needs to be dismantled, polished, checked, measured, shimmed etc. etc......He also fits his own gears..( not bronze.) I am sure you are right abt. the reliefe valve, - they tend to stick ! If you like I can give you his phone nbr. if you want to order a pump from him. ( Maybe he is the same you mention......?)
