Oil/water cooling

Whilst responding to another question I was reminded that there have been many questions about how to stop the cooling system in particular from overheating.

The last race car I built had a rear engine 1300 BDH installed which always gives rise to how to keep them cool. To help in this particular case I useda device called a Laminova heat exchanger (https://www.laminova.com), some of our members have probably come across these devices before.

The main benefits are they passed the coolant through the same radiator as the oil, where as we know water heats up quicker than oil. This means that as the water is heating up it dissipates heat into the oil system so that the engine oil heats up much quicker whilst the temperature of the oil is offset into the water. Another benefit is that the unit is quite small and unlike having to fit another water radiator. From memory the one I fitted was not as big as an oil cooler and therefore could be easily fitted into smaller spaces.

I spoke at length to the company's technical team who convinced me that I only needed a small unit to take care of my requirements and found them most helpful. But rather than me go into lots of detail here, try their website which is most informative.
