Hello Lotus friends ,
I just returned from "The Gathering" annual car show weekend, sponsored by the NC Triumph Club in Dobson NC near Mt. Airy. All British Makes. That says it all. It’s a great annual event held at the Shelton Winery.
I am proud to say that I was able to just complete my Plus 2 restoration just in time, to make the 160 mile journey to the event. The place was filled with MG's, Triumphs, Jags, a few Sunbeam, a couple of RR, Morris, TVR's, Bentley, Morgan, and more. I took many photos. I was parked with the Lotus crowd, and we all became friends.
Met the owner of a 71 Lotus Elan in Carnival Red, which matched pretty darn well with my 71 Plus 2S in Carnival Red. So we did a little photo shoot after the show ended. I just enjoyed having the exact same color car and model year together in one spot. The side-by-side photos were fun. A somewhat rare occurrence- so here are those pix. Just thought I'd share
As it turns out, the owner of the red 71 Elan won the first place in the Lotus class!
And I am excited to say my red 71 Elan Plus 2, won second place.
A very nice Lotus Elan in yellow, took home third place.
A very enjoyable weekend and a very fine day for the venerable Lotus Elan.

I've read about this event earlier this year and it's enticing. It's about a 5 1/2 hour drive for me (Atlanta area).
I'll look forward to the 2025 event.
