brake caliper alignment part 2

PostPost by: street » Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:03 am

So if Im going to shim the caliper to centre the disc, anyone got any clever ideas on measurement, are we just looking to have equal gap either side of disc to caliper.

thanks

When I was making some caliper brackets for a disc conversion on the Europa what I did was to remove the pads and make metal shims to centralise the disc inside the caliper body rather than relying on using the brake pads/pistons.

I think the same principle would work for what you're doing, centralise the caliper and then measure how much shim thickness you'll need from the body mounts to the hub carrier. The depth gauge on a digital vernier should give you a very accurate measurement to within a thou or so ?

Is it far out? I'm surprised that you need to shim it and I wonder whether there is another problem.
