Very interested if anyone knows how the earlier windscreen fitment has be achieved in this later shell?

Yes, re the windscreen I too would like to know how they managed to fit what looks like an early +2 rubber/locking trim in a '72 window aperture.
Maybe the answer is that the bodyshell is from an earlier car?

I think it may have been discussed on here before, but is likely modify the windscreen lip to suite seal rather than bonding screen in.

Having failed with two attempts to use the Paul Matty plastic/chrome screen trim on my 1972 +2 this option is looking very interesting.

My last effort with the plastic/chrome trim was almost successful but the screen fitter discouraged me from pulling the top of the screen in immediately after fitting, saying the adhesive would go off within 6 min so it was pointless to try. The result was the trim did not sit tight on the top corners; trying to stick it down later resulted in the dreaded wrinkles at one corner. After 6 months some smaller defects are becoming noticeable so I have my doubts about long term durability.
I have more plastic/chrome trim for another attempt and will ensure the screen with trim is left clamped in position for several weeks to ensure it takes the correct shape before sticking.

To avoid my complete despair if I fail again I am prepared to forego authenticity for longer term practicality. Can someone suggest a supplier and description for the all rubber trim, also if it can be found with a thin chrome/plastic insert to match the rear screen trim?

Thanks, Richard

I agree, originality is now secondary for me, I too would love details of the rubber and appropriate adhesive.

Nice looking car. Looks just like the +2 that I recently bought, which was advertised on here. The car in the auction sold for £31k! Wow.

I like the gear lever gaitor installation. Mine has needed some attention as the gaitor was squashing against the dash and it wasn't sealed to the bodywork. I've just zoomed in on the pic of the gear knob - I had thought it looked like a 5 speed but it's a 4 speed - ok that makes sense.

Regards.

Hi 10kph.
You say you have fitted four +2 later bonded type screens with a rubber alternative?
Can you tell where you got the rubbers from etc. Are you saying that you bond a rubber to the aperture?
I am sure there are a number of us on here, me included, who would like to have a lot more information please.

Thanks,

Alan

Hello Alan
A few more photos to explain
The rubber is run round the screen edge
Held in place with masking tape
Mitre the corners and soperglue
From the inside of screen clean with sealer kit solution then apply black bonding solution to make a lack band like modern cars This hides any uneven adhesive
Because the bonding gap is quite wide towards the top I apply a piramid shaped bead of adhesive over the rubber and glass about 10 mm wide
Allow to dry
Run a similar bead of sealer to the lower scree aperture
Place screen in position and tape down until set
Only use proper screen bonding products
I have one car bonded as such for 12 years with no leaks or deterioration
Chapman would have use this system because it is cheap and more aerodynamic
The originals chrome creases discolours and lifts
Hope this helps
Tony

Hi Tony,
Thanks for all the information. That is just great!
All we now need to know is any information you have on where to obtain the rubber and exactly what vehicle it is from?...I know you previously mentioned Transit, however my searching so far has revealed that there are different rubber seals used on the Transit depending on which year?
I wonder..Do you have a small sample piece I could use in order to find a source for this rubber?

Thanks again,

Alan.

Hi Alan, I have had the same experience, too many transit screen rubber variants. Any info on which one is correct would be very welcome!

Hi James,
Yes I think until we have a supplier source or alternatively know exactly which or what the rubber is we are unfortunately a bit stuffed!
There are too many possibilities and variants to make it a viable option until we know more.
