Proper head for a 73 +2

Hello,

I am working on getting a +2 back on the road that had been in a garage for 30 years. It needs a new head. Since it is 1973 it would have had the Big Value head. The head I am looking at is from a Sprint Elan and has a intake of 1.562 and exhaust of 1.32. Does that make it a Big Value? Just trying to restore it back to as close of factory as possible.

Thanks

Jeff

I'd be careful buying a used head, at this point there a good chance it's been rebuilt and experts are limited on this side of the pond. So may not have been done very well or needing a rebuild now. They also go soft, most likely caused by overheating.

It's unlikely a member here would try to fob of a known bad head but if getting one from eBay or somewhere you want lots of details and photos etc to try and make sure sure is good.

Personally if I needed a new head I'd probably just pay the money for a new one. Cost a bit more but less than two used heads or one head and a rebuild. They have improved materials and casting. I saw one yesterday and was pretty obvious from first glance the improvements in casting quality and accuracy.
