Lotus Elan

Source for +2 licence plate light pods

PostPost by: h20hamelan » Tue May 18, 2021 2:59 pm

Not a common light in N America, or that I can find.
Also, I have noting to compare to as mine didn’t have a rear bumper.

Anyone know the origins of the +2 plate illumination please

Kind Regards

Doesn’t look quite the same to me, does it have glass? Doesn’t appear to include the mounting part to the bumper itself.

The light is MGB as John pointed out and available from most of the MGB parts supplier in the US. (I bough two from Victoria British many years ago).

The base isn't used on the MGB, not sure if from a different vehicle or a +2 special. I just reused mine with good clean/polish.

According to their website, SJ Sportscars in the UK have the whole thing including base.

The Holden ones John pointed to, are angled. Though the ones elanfan1 PM’ed me look more straight.
SJS looks straight/flat/horizontal.
The bumper looks like it would accept any/all of the offerings.
Paul Matty looks straight.

Could I request a pic of OEM bumper please? But I am guessing they are straight.

Also, why would they MG style on an angle not be fine, as this would angle the light more toward the plate numbers, and less up into the air?

From personal experience, I can confirm that the SJS version does fit the OEM bumper.
