Hi Guys,

Here is some pictures of my Elan +2 when I purchased it some years ago. At the beginning of 2017 we started to dismatle the car for the complete restoration. I will show you pictures about the work done until today (now we are working on the body).

Thank you

Cheers

Edo

Why did the car need complete restoration Edo, it looks in great condition and original?

Hi Leslie,

The car from the pictures seems good, but it needs a new paint, engine rebuilt because there wasn't compression and when we removed body from the chassis, found some stress cracks in the front of the chassis.

In the follow pictures, you can see the rolling chassis and chassis after welding(ready to be painted)

Out of interest how did you connect the hoist to the body when lifting it?

Looks like chain down into engine bay area but I'd expect that not to be very balanced.

We made a home made and not so safety structure like this in the pictures

Thanks Edo91. I've been thinking about doing a similair thing if I ever get around to doing the chassis swap on my car, plan to use the jack points in the sill members as primarily pickup points.

I've posted this pic of my body lift before, but maybe you haven't seen it. I welded up two triangular side frames from 1" box section, which hook into the jacking points, and join them with a 2" box section across the top.

You will notice two concrete blocks on the bonnet. The centre of gravity of the +2 bodyshell is closer to the rear door edge, and not midway between the jacking points, as I discovered.

Nice one, Foxie.. although the cross member looks a bit bowed... but it must've worked!

Thanks. I can't weld but expect to make a similar frame by other methods. Need to do some testing to see if the angles/clearance will work using a engine hoist.

Well spotted ! Just a a little bit of elastic deformation. Conforms with Chapman design spec: "Just strong enough" ! :)
