drivers seat bolster was torn and pretty tatty when purchased.

found a handy repair kit on line which consists of patch fabric, fillers, paints and sealers.

thought i'd give it a try rather than go down re trim route.

20160207_201336_resized.jpg and

seat with damaged bolster

20161109_200816.jpg and

rough edges neatened up with sharp blade and 'stitch' fabric glued in place behind vinyl

20161109_202230.jpg and

couldn't get gap closed totally so had to build the large gap up with filler in stages, each time trying to add a bit of grain effect

20170219_123909.jpg and

takes a little while to mix the colour to match as close as possible then dabbed on with sponge, couple of coats and colour match is pretty good. see cleaned tunnel trim for match. now seat will be cleaned to same level. (I was too impatient to clean seat first before you ask!) 2 options of sealer are provided, gloss or matt and these can be mixed to get sheen of vinyl to match existing.

at a passing glance you could never tell, I can spot it but then I'm looking for the repair!

overall, very pleased with results. :D

Brilliant repair, well done!

I don't think you could get new vinyl to match the old even if you wanted to.

thanks gents!

kit is from

https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leath ... Bundle.php

this is the repair and re colour bundle, you can get either repair or colour kits separately depending on what you need to do. You have a choice of colour packs to go with it and you get a selection of tools to assist. there are video guides to make the process easier to follow.

I used a similar kit in the 70's but that had the advantage of making a fairly permanent hot welded repair using a clothes iron, it came with graining papers and also some stuff so that you could take your own moulds of the vinyl pattern or seams etc, did a really good job of a rip on a Capri seat.
