Steering Rack Shimming

Does anyone know if the dimension of 158 mm from top wishbone spindles to steering rack shim quoted in Brian Bucklands book for the baby Elan also apply to a +2?

Yes
The rack height setup should be the same on the Plus 2 I believe as its aim is to get the rack ball joints onto the line joining the upper and lower inner pivots of the front suspension arms and all these items dimensions are the same in the Elan and Plus 2.

Ahhh . . . so that's what is supposed to line up . . . Now I get it. As the suspension pivots up and down, the tie rod end can pivot (at it's ball joint) in the same plane as the A arms, and thus not pull on the steering arm.

Thanks for the asking and answering. Will be doing this job soon myself

The answer is Yes. I contacted Brian regarding this very same question.
Best of luck.
