Plus 2 or Plus 2S

Has anyone read the interesting article in the latest Club Lotus magazine, on the reworked cars?
Interesting to see the work sheet on the S4 change to a sprint. It also begs the question, if they changed the car and chassis number to suit a Sprint, did they delete the S4 from the original chassis number records?
And how many cars did it involve and how long did they sit on the Tarmac before they came in for the rework.

Ditto my '72 130/5. If they are the ones with the clear lenses, also 2 spots. And no relays! Large blue spark when the switch is operated. It helps when looking for the petrol leak.

My February 1970 Federal Plus 2S (all the S features) has 2 fog lamps, definitely original from the rust and similar amounts of pitting on both lenses.

Not to add another fly in the ointment, but I found another seemingly small difference.

When I am taking a break from working on the car and having some lunch, I spend the down time looking through the Service Parts List. Often times a picture can be a guide in my direction. Yesterday I was looking at dashes. Just looking at oil pressure gauges, there are some differences between the variations of the Plus2. One picture shows a 100 pound gauge, while the rest show a 60 pound gauge. Could this be a mistake in the drawing, or a lack of what has been a standard in the pressure gauges since the beginning of all the Elans?

Good spot ! I just looked for myself & see exactly what you mean

A further question on "change points" for a nearby item... The steering column binnacle.. when did the Ford binnacle (with sold shaft) get replaced by the "Triumph" (collapsible) item ? I recently had a conversation with a certain well known (in these circles) author who was not aware the Ford item was ever used in the +2... I think he now owes me a fiver and will have to rewrite a section in his book [Sorry for that !].

its should be 60psi.....
if your 60psi unit fails you cant find a smith gauge of the same....only 100psi......
there are a couple of things that can be done...
change the faces over....
in the +2 is an electrical sender rather than a hydraulic one as in the elan so you can get a resistor to convert it...
or leave it as in and run at 50psi indicated......

anyway the 100psi gauge is a replacement

Strange, i had a look at mine closely yesterday and my 1970 S that had been factory converted to a 130 had one of each but the later 5 speed are the same (not sure if there both fogs or spots but the same)

I take it this... "Switch - Oil Pressure " is the sender unit...?

My old +2 'S' (April 69 registered) had the electrical type gauge, my current +2 'S130' (October 72 registered) has the hydraulic type. I'm just in the process of fitting a nice new dashboard, & have discovered that my gauge seems to be leaking inside, having laid the old dash face down to remove everything, I now have oil all over the inside of the glass  If anyone has a spare, I could offer it a good home :D
