I was an RF technician back in the old days in the army. We had a radio come into the shop once, I forget the symptoms but when it got opened for troubleshooting we found that an enclosed transformer had blown, and the PCB-oil inside had been cooked into a really smelly star-like substance that was suck all over lots of other bits and had to be scraped-off. We would have preferred to send it to the depot for remanufacturing, but as the transformer was the only operational defect, we could not do so. Bugger of a job getting all that toxic goo out.
