Interior fittings - upgrades?

I'm the process of replacing all the felt and carpet in my +2. I'm about half way through, and it's dawned on me that there must be a better, more reliable way of securing the rear seats and tunnel to the GRP than self-tapping blocks of wood into GRP (which I assume is how it was done originally?).

So far, I've simply replaced the wooden blocks with new ones, but has anyone else got any better ideas? I figured that bobbins could be set into the GRP to give a more secure metal thread like the kind found for the spare wheel.

I'd welcome any thoughts, ideas, experiences on this.

Is this something that changed at some point? My '70 has no wood blocks, just pointy screws into the GRP.

Yeah, I think my '70 Plus 2S is just screws into grp, too.
