Hi
I have a question about the rear covers for the wishbones and the brakes. Ar? there really necesary? Has someone made an upgrade? Has the Baby Elan the same system?

Regards

My car's splash guards have been off for years, though I personally only have 7 months of (non-rainy) driving on it.

Suspect more cars are without than with them. Perhaps someone with the splash guards could comment . . .

Well, that's obvious, Rob . . . tell us which side has better braking: with or without the splash guards???

Are they really necessary? Most Plus 2's do not have them now, "Baby" elans never had them...

The wishbone cover is also not neccesary?I think the brake cover is not necessary but the wishbone cover? What is the function of the wishbone cover? Protect the suspension or is it an aerodynamic part of the car?

I think I will go for the added unsprung lightness. Even though it will upset the car's balance, by shifting weight to the front. Can probably counter that by eating more deserts.

I was saying the wishbone covers are unnecessary, not the brake covers.

Possibly intended as an aerodynamic aid? But irritating when they get stones on top & rattle....

Thats why you fit two as a sandwich one on top, the other underneath..

Not exactly adding lightness...

16 gauge aluminium makes it so aerodynamic it flows through the air...

Hi,
I think the guards were fitted by lotus as a service fix for either snow ingress or maybe to stop dirt dropping down on to the caliper / handbrake linkage because of excessive wear - either way I don't think we need them now.

Hi,
I've got these fitted but I'm fairly sure the wishbone panels are causing a rattle so intend to remove them but leave the brake shields in place.
I always wondered if these dirt shields were a (failed) attempt to increase the life of the inner wheel bearing?
