Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to find put what colour my car was when it left the factory? Chassis is 50/1151. Now white, but the dvla history shows it being black with a silver roof in the early 70s, changing to brown and gold later on. I didn't think elan +2s had silver roofs until the 130, so I assume mine would not have had a silver roof when built in November 68? Any tips gratefully received. Al

You may be lucky to find an original colour code on the bottom right of your chassis plate - usually in the format L07 or L11 which can be be translated to the colour. Otherwise drop a line to LotusArchives on here and hopefully Andy the factory archivist may be able to tell you.

You could also get the basic colour from your original logbook which you can get a copy of by sending ?5 and a V888 form to the DVLA.

Good luck.

Al, I think if you take certain parts off your car and look behind them, locks, lights, brackets etc. you will find the original colour. Mine was painted many times, but behind certain parts, it was originally dark green.
Worth a look,
Kev.

Wow, car-painting must be cheap over there! Here is USA it costs a small fortune to get a car painted, especially if the job is of worthwhile quality. And the Elan I'll be taking home soon needs paint.
