Can't say I've ever heard of a limited run of 200 turquoise Plus 2's!

Only thing I could suggest would be it used to be a JPS but then there wasn't 200 of those either. More like 85.

The ad makes a spurious claim imho

Interesting all the same though

My read of the ad was that the run of 200 was for 5spd, sunroof & BV engine... so my question would be how many +2S/130 were built ? did any leave the factory with a sunroof (or was this a dealer fit)... or is this "limited edition" spurious as you say ?

Looks like a pretty standard 1974 Plus2S / 130 5 with a dealer fitted or after market sunroof and non standard paint colour.

All Lotus are "limited edition" and maybe 200 5 speeds were made in 1974?? but not really a limited edition of any sort. The claim sounds like typical dealer sales spiel to the uninitiated..

cheers

I agree, this is a spurious claim. We would know about any such special editions by now. I've never heard of these.

I have got the total number of Plus 2S 130 Elans made but am currently abroad and have no access to my records.

Sunroofs were never fitted by the factory but by dealers or importers.

Champagne interior? Never heard of that. If the dealer had said Oatmeal, then I might think he knew waht he was selling. Just as well he didn't say original leather interior like most do.
Anyone wnant to contact them and find out what the POA is?
Kind regards
Jeff.

Hi Tim,

"Never" is a dangerous word to use where Lotuses are concerned! My +2 S130 was first run as a Lotus company car by Richard Morley who was Managing Director at the time. I have made contact with Richard over the past few years and am delighted to say he has been reunited with the car and enjoyed a quick drive in it again after 40+ years.

My car has a sunroof but I have it on first hand authority that it was fitted by the factory for Richard as he used the car for a trip to Portugal while he ran it (and we all know how warm it can get in a +2 cabin in hot weather).

I guess you can tell it was an original factory fitment - its not in very straight!!

I noticed it too! Always wanted one but their prices remain way too high for me to consider. Just as well; I'm at maximum toy-capacity already anyway.

Roy

Almost certainly not fitted by the factory then!

In fact, I'd be fairly sure the Service Garage at Hethel would have fitted it. That was, to split hairs, a separate operation to the production line!

I will check back with Richard, Tim; but the way he described it to me was that he got the factory to put a sunroof in. Though I concede it would not have been fitted 'on the production line' as part of the build process.

Thanks for the nice comments on the Honda. They really are astonishing machines, but built on Lotus principles - light, performance from low weight rather than brute force and awesome roadholding.
